Finally, you have made up your mind. You have taken the plunge and decided to begin your fitness journey. But, are you feeling jittery or overwhelmed? There is nothing to worry about. We have all been in your shoes and know how it feels on the first day of the gym.

Think of it as a positive start to your life and soon you’ll be motivated to feel the difference. After all, regular exercise can keep you in great shape, add more years to life, and most importantly, keep health issues at bay. In today’s fast-paced life, unhealthy lifestyle choices tend to have a negative bearing on our health as well as mind. Gym personal training can be your first step towards a fruitful and more productive life.

Tips To Take Care of Nervousness

Before you start training, it is important to pay attention to your mental state. You may be nervous but, there are plenty of ways to tackle first-time jitters. To start off, dress appropriately to look and feel the part. Get appropriate workout clothes and shoes. Prepare a gym kit. Keep a towel, water bottle and training clothes handy.

While choosing clothes, make sure to pick comfortable clothing. A loose t-shirt, a good pair of shoes and shorts or stockings can get you perfectly dressed for the occasion. As your confidence levels rise, feel motivated to take on the challenge.

Start With a Plan

Instead of just wandering into the gym, make a plan for at least a week. Talk to your trainer before starting off. Be informed about the kind of workout your trainer has planned. It is always better than just walking into the gym and testing equipment according to your whims and fancies. In most cases, you’ll be unable to use it properly and it will hardly contribute to your fitness goals.

Also, try to focus on why you want to start gym personal training. Is it because you want to lead a healthy life? Is it because you want to gain muscles or lose weight? Be objective. It will help you to make an effective plan that will deliver results. It is also a good idea to let your trainer know about any physical problems that you are facing. If you are troubled by a persistent knee or back pain, never hesitate to inform. It will help your trainer to devise a workout plan that will take care of your problems.

Once you are ready to workout, here are some tips to begin your first day at the gym.

1. Get some warm up

As you step into the gym, your trainer will introduce you to the workout regime. Never begin a workout without warming up your body. Start with simple steps. Do a few shoulder rolls, push-ups, walking lunges, body weight squats to get the blood pumping. Take some time to get acclimatized to the gym environment. It is always recommended to ease into a workout to prevent injuries and a warm-up is a perfect ploy to start the day.

2. Start Slow

On your first day, you’ll not be able to do a lot of things. You will suddenly feel aches and pains in places you’d never imagine. But, it’s OK. As your body gets used to the workout routine you will feel the difference and the soreness will become manageable. While the first day will be the hardest, with every repetition and every new exercise, things will slowly get better.

If you are unable to do a full repetition, pause and take a breather. Start over. But, never quit. As the muscles get used to the exercise regime, it’ll be much easier on your body and you will soon develop the will power to push yourself harder.

3. Set a Target

Exercising for 30 minutes a day, at least 3 days a week is a good target for beginners. On the first day, your trainer is most likely to set the pace for the next 7 days. Accordingly, you will be asked to start training. While light walking or jogging on the treadmill can be a good start, you can begin simple strength training exercises to make your body stronger.

4. Focus on Diet

No matter how much you exercise, a bad diet can completely ruin your effort. Do not let cravings lead you astray. From Day One, focus on following a healthy diet. If you are thinking about crazy, fad-diets, they are absolutely not recommended. All you need to do is think about incorporating all the food groups, in adequate amounts, in your meals.

You can have three main meals over the day and have two to three small snacks in between. This will keep you full and will prevent overeating. With your workout and diet in focus, you will be perfectly poised to carry out your health and fitness routine.

5. Take Care of Yourself

After the workout, your legs may not move and you might shake for a while. Catch your breath and congratulate yourself for successfully finishing the first day of the gym. To prevent any injuries, cool off and take a shower. Although your body will be stiff, your mind will be absolutely refreshed and rejuvenated!

If you start working out more than your body can endure, it may lead to injuries. It will also increase fatigue, decrease performance levels and cause severe physical discomfort.

Therefore, be cautious and never overburden your body. If you notice any issues, immediately discuss with your trainer and if required, scale down the number of days of exercising.
